Welcome a-bored

आते हैं गैब से यह मज़ामी ख़याल में,
ग़ालिब सरीर-ए-खामा नवाए सुरोश है
These thoughts that I commit to words come straight from the unknown,
The susurrus my quill doth make, is in fact the angel who spake.

Do you ever relax your mind?

If you use your mind then relax your mind.

But if your mind uses you then I am genuinely sorry for you.

Q & A

1. You are buying a house for five people. If the location, price & quality are the same then what would you choose?
a) five bedroom set
b) one bedroom set

Would you choose one bedroom set because you like the color of walls more in this one?

2. You are in huge debt & you have an option to switch to a job that’s five times your current salary. The working hours & work being the same. What would you do?
a) switch immediately
b) remain loyal to current job

Would you let go of the offer because you like the people a lot in your current job?

3. You are extremely hungry. What would you choose?
a) fresh, clean & cooked food
b) dry & uncooked food

Would you choose going by the smell of both the options?

4. You have to leave the most valuable acquisition of your life in someone’s care for a short while. Who would you leave it with?
a) dearest & trust worthy childhood pal
b) schemist renowned for being a thug, crook & cheat

Now what if someone chooses b) in all four questions because of mood, inauspicious time or simply to be different.

If you have mostly a) as your answer then your mind is still working, Congratulations.
But if there is even a single b) then I am really sorry for you.

Do you get any of these symptoms at least once a week.
Boredom Anger Fatigue Sadness

If yes, then either your mind is very tired of answering tough questions like above for you. Or you are not using it to its full capacity.
After all your mind always helps you choose whats best suited for you.

What do you do to relax your precious mind?
Do you use it further in so called relaxing or recreational activities?

If intoxication is your answer then you are very unfortunate.

Considering the fact that all five of our sense work only backed by an active mind then how can you expect someone to relax in such constant active state.
Imagine working hard for a whole week without sleeping. What must have become of your mind which has been ceaselessly active always?

Many of us consider sleep as relaxation. It just relaxed your body though the mind is still active. Else you would never witness dreams while asleep & wake up same fresh & energetic without wishing to sleep little more every morning.

You have to care for your mind like a mother does for an infant. Our mind doesn’t know when to relax. But an aware mother tends to every need of an infant. Fortunately our mind unlike a child, is self sufficient in doing everything. The only thing it doesn’t know is to relax or rest.

A peaceful & relaxed mind is fountain of affection, joy, peace & constant bliss. Otherwise it is inflicted with constant greed for excitement & joy in trivial pursuits. Fear & anxiety of unfavorable events or circumstances.

We often claim or complain that our mind compels us to do something or provokes us. it’s a sign of an unhappy or tired mind, just like an annoyed child.
Where as a happy mind is like a lovable & obedient child who pays careful attention to whatever you say.

We wash our body with water everyday to keep it clean & fresh. Similarly we have to wash our mind with silence. The silence of the mind, not the surroundings.
It refreshes & rejuvenates our mind for all kind of activities.

Since there is a close bonding of your mind & body. Our body should also be inactive or still during such silence. An active body or active sense organs don’t let our mind be at halt.
Stillness of our body can induce or trigger sleep, hence its necessary to keep it upright without any external support.

We just have to be a witness to all the activities of our mind during such a process. For e.g. thoughts, ideas, desires, plans, projections, manifestations, dwelling into past, dreams for future, etc.
It is not required to command our mind. When you take care of the above mentioned, the mind perceives it as a signal to relax.
Its not an instant process. Like for any fast moving object, it takes a while to kill the inertia. We have to very patient. The speed has been reached over ages, so the brakes take a while to affect.

Though external processes also sometimes give similar results but not very efficient. Imagine, trying to stop a car from outside with boulders & blocks. Where just applying the brakes sitting inside is so much better & effective.

The complete inactivity of mind is the first goal, then letting some time pass by is the actual process.
This is popularly known as meditation. Though lot of different forms & techniques have evolved but the foresaid remains the ultimate aim for all.
